"Damon
Allen" said (Jason) Garrett, "is one of the greatest athletes i've ever
seen in my life." It's a popular theme down here. A couple of days ago,
Allen's big brother Marcus, the Hall of Fame running back, said with all
due respect to the two teams playing in the Super Bowl, there isn't an
athlete on either team as great as Damon, Randall Cunningham, the one-time
Eagles and Vikings star and current Cowboys backup, said not long ago that
of all the quarterbacks who never got the chance to play in the NFL, Allen
was the best. "I've never seen anyone throw the ball like Damon Allen,"
said Garrett. "With all the premiums on timing passes, real accuracy is
important in Canada because the field is so wide and guys run out of their
breaks. Well, when I go up there for the first practice, he throws a
25-yard in-cut to the wide side of the field and I'm like, 'Are you
kidding me?' "And then, after practice, when we're throwing individual
routes, he goes over on the other side of the ball and covers guys like a
cornerback. What a helluva player."
