Larry Crawford was a star defensive back at Iowa State and a conference all-star. He burst onto the scene with the B.C. Lions in 1981 with 8 interceptions including a 60 yard return for a touchdown. His speed was put to use returning kicks as well as the Lions found a replacement for Leon Bright who left in 1981 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. 


In 1982, Crawford expanded to return kickoffs and was an all-around threat.

 

1983 would be the Miami natives finest season as he totaled 12 interceptions, returning 2 for touchdowns, he added 766 punt return yards as a star on the Lions who would advance to the Grey Cup only to fall to the Toronto Argonauts. It would be his first of 2 straight All-Star seasons.

 

1984 Crawford had 5 interceptions, he matched that total in 1985 as B.C won the Grey Cup. He would continue to post solid numbers through the 1980ís highlighted by 9 interceptions in 1986 and 3 punt return touchdowns in 1988. He was dealt East to Toronto in 1989 and would spend 1 season with the Argonauts. He retired after 10 seasons in the league and 52 interceptions (including 4 for touchdowns). A versatile threat Larry Crawford was one of the stars of the Canadian Football League in the 1980ís.
