Like all CFL quarterbacks, Jimmy Kemp relies on a quick release. Only this time, it was from the Toronto Argonauts.

Kemp, 29, exercised an option in his contract that removed him from the Argonauts roster after being placed on waivers last week.

"He said he's going to explore his options," Argonauts general manager Paul Masotti said.

Speculation is Kemp's primary option is the XFL, specifically the Chicago Enforcers.

"I'd sure like to get him back," Masotti said. All the lines of communication are open."

Toronto acquired Kemp and Inoke Breckterfield from the Edmonton Eskimos for Nealon Greene and Marcello Simmons on June 9, 1999.

One year later, Kemp replaced injured Jay Barker as starting QB, but was again relegated to backup duty when Kerwin Bell re-signed. Kemp is the son of former Buffalo Bill quarterback and politician Jack Kemp. He is also the brother of former NFL quarterback Jeff Kemp.

He completed 122 of 226 pass attempts for 1495 yards, 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season.

Kemp is 643-1270 for 8,545 yards, 45 TDs and 63 interceptions over seven seasons with the Sacramento Gold Miners, Montreal Alouettes, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Eskimos and Argos.

Kemp would return to the Argonauts for the 2001 season and have his finest season as a professional with 2,838 yards passing and 16 touchdowns. Following the season he would retire from football and has since gone on to become a successful lawyer.
